“We Love NYC” or “We Love New York City” (“We *heart* NYC”)
“I Love NY” (“I *heart* NY”) is a New York State promotional campaign that originated in the 1970s. “We Love NYC” or “We Love New York City” (“We *heart* NYC”) is a New York City promotional campaign that originated in March 2023.
The logos of the two are similar, but some people found the new logo confusing, reading it as “WE NYC *heart”.” Initial reaction to “We Love NYC” was mixed, with many people finding it to be a poor imitation of the “I Love NY” campaign.

“We❤️NYC” is a 21st Century version of the 70’s “I❤️NY” campaign. Once again, New Yorkers are coming together to mobilize civic action and community engagement as the catalyst for a renaissance of the city and its neighborhoods. In many ways, the challenges facing the city today are more complex than in the past. Together, “WE” can tackle these challenges and demonstrate, once again, that this is the greatest city in the world.

Campaign Celebrates What Makes NYC Great and Empowers New Yorkers to Show Their Love by Getting Involved
Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, business, labor, and civic leaders from across the five boroughs today launched “We ❤️ NYC”, a campaign to showcase the city’s strengths and mobilize New Yorkers to make sure this remains the greatest city in the world. The citywide campaign will kick off with a celebration of New Yorkers who are making a difference — the “doers” — and will feature opportunities for civic engagement that everyone can contribute to. New Yorkers can get engaged at welovenyc.nyc.
“From its iconic views and vibrant arts and culture to its thriving businesses and world-class cuisine, New York City represents some of the best that our state has to offer,” Governor Hochul said. “This We ❤️ NYC campaign will help to capture that energy and preserve the city’s spirit by encouraging New Yorkers of every background to come together, get involved, and make a positive change in their community.”
“This city overcame the darkest days of the pandemic because of the selfless work of everyday New Yorkers, and if each of us gives just one hour a week in an act of service, the result will be transformative,” said Mayor Adams. “That is why I am proud to announce the launch of ‘We ❤️ NYC,’ in partnership with Governor Hochul and the Partnership for New York City. The ‘We ❤️ NYC’ campaign asks everyone who loves the greatest city in the world to show it by lending a helping hand and spreading that love to every block across all five boroughs.”
“New York’s secret sauce has always been the ability of our diverse communities to work together, confidently and with common purpose, to solve problems and navigate change,” said Steven Swartz, CEO of Hearst and immediate past co-chair of the Partnership for New York City who served as the Master of Ceremonies for today’s event. “The broad spectrum of organizations that are lining up to support the We ❤️ NYC campaign demonstrates once again how our city’s diversity makes it strong.”
NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Vincent Alvarez said, “The NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO is proud to join this broad effort to ensure New York City remains a vibrant and growing city. New York City is where we work. New York City is where we live and raise our families. We love NYC and working people will do our part to continue making this the greatest city in the world.”

I’m Steve Swartz, chief executive of the Hearst Corporation, immediate past co-chairman of the Partnership for New York City, and the incoming chair of Lincoln Center. Thank you.

We ❤️ NYC: Iconic 70s Slogan Gets Refresh Celebrating the Big Apple
By NBC New York Staff
March 20, 2023
“It’s not just a slogan, it’s not a logo. It’s a spirit.”
That’s the message Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered alongside Mayor Eric Adams on Monday before a crowd in Times Square, where the politicians helped launch a new ad campaign on the back of the iconic “I Love New York” slogan of the 1970s.
In its updated form, the “We Love New York City” initiative hopes to inspire community and civic engagement, and mobilize New Yorkers to get more involved in their neighborhoods.
The two-year campaign is a collaboration between Hochul, Adams and the Partnership for New York City designed to celebrate “what makes NYC great” and bolster efforts to bring the city back from pandemic setbacks.

City and state officials on Monday launched a new ad campaign called “We ❤️ NYC” that’s intended to counter pessimism about the city’s future and encourage civic engagement and pride among residents.
But this being New York City, the initial reaction was marked more by disdain and ridicule.

New Yorkers On New ‘We Love NYC’ Logo: We Hate It
“This reads We NYC Heart to me,” one Twitter user posted about the updated logo unveiled Monday. They weren’t alone.

NEW YORK CITY — A new ad campaign for New York City aims for a simple message to rally city dwellers after a rough few years: “We NYC Heart.”
Or, at least that’s how many New Yorkers, graphic designers and Twitter users read the logo unveiled Monday.
The logo and campaign slogan is actually “We Love NYC” — an adaptation of the iconic “I Love NY” — and aims to signal that the city has rebounded from the coronavirus pandemic, said Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul during an announcement in Times Square.
(...)
“Font aside (and that’s a big aside) this reads We NYC Heart to me???” one person tweeted.
(...)
Not only that, but the Twitter handle @WeLoveNYC was actually already taken by a user named Mark Scally in 2009. Many organizations such as the New-York Historical Society ended up tagging this apparently inactive account instead of the official one in tie-in tweets.
